In the interest of disclosure I should say that I have never taken LSD, nor do I intend to. I first heard this Bill Hick's routine when I was 15, and it just sort of captured my imagination. It rang, as Wittgenstein would say, "true enough."
Many years ago I encountered a couple of clowns on Madison Drive all too eager to share with me the operations of their basement Acid Laboratory. First impressions being what they are, I can honestly say I wouldn't trust these guys to make me a peanut butter & jelly sandwhich, let alone to properly synthesize a neurotransmitting chemical that's going to fire across my synapses and bind to the serotonin receptor sites in the neurons of my brain!
I like McLuhan's answer when asked if he had ever taken acid, he said that he had not, as after studying the matter he had concluded that LSD was simply the lazy man's version of Finnegans Wake.
I am very glad to see that clinical study of Lysergic acid diethylamide has finally resumed though, hopefully they will be able to replicate some of the results of the early trials, when properly synthesized, professionally administered LSD, in an appropriate set & setting, successfully treated maladies as diverse as autism, alcoholism, cancer, depression, OCD, etc, et, al.
